Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a simple and safe service for exfoliating the epidermis and ridding the skin of fine vellus hair (peach fuzz).
Because dermaplaning is a quick service with few to no adverse effects, it has quickly gained popularity across the country. It is a first choice for those who have excess vellus hair on the skin. This hair often causes a buildup of dirt and oils in the follicles, so removing the hair gives way to healthier looking skin. This is a great treatment for women who are pregnant or nursing who want a deep exfoliation, but are not allowed to use peeling agents on their skin because of the risk that the chemicals will be absorbed into the blood stream, and may be transferred to the fetus or the child.
Although merely an old wives’ tale, many are often concerned that the hair will grow back heavier and darker after dermaplaning. This is not the case. As long as the hair is superficial vellus hair, it will grow back at the same rate and texture as before the treatment.
Removing epidermal skin also allows products to penetrate more readily into the deeper layers of the skin.
Dermaplaning is most often used on patients with rough, dry skin, superficial hyperpigmentation, mild acne scarring, or fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment results in a more refined, smooth, “glowing” appearance.
What to expect
A clarifying cleanser is applied to remove make-up and deep clean the skin in preparation for the service.
Next, a peel prep serum is applied and used to buff the skin. This adds an added level of cleansing, removing deeply embedded dirt in the skin. It also removes any excess moisture to leave the skin in the best state for the service.
A surgical blade is used at a 45 degree angle with a feather light touch to remove the peach fuzz and dead skin cells, hence performing deep exfoliation of the skin. During this stage you will feel a light scraping on your skin – this is the peach fuzz being shaved off along with dead skin cells and dirt. The Dermaplaning procedure is completely pain free and relaxing.
Another cleanser is applied once dermaplaning is completed to clean off any excess dead skin cells that may be left on the face.
Lastly, a rich moisturizer is applied and massaged in to the skin for deep moisturization, promote collagen production and achieve the radiant glow that the service is known for.
There is no downtime associated with this service. Gentle cleansing, and no scrub type products should be used on the face for 48 hours following the service. Also, minimal sun exposure for 48 hours, if you are going to be in the sun always apply sunscreen.
Dermaplaning can be done as often as every two weeks, although it is usually done when vellus hair starts to grow back, which is generally in 4 weeks.
